Faculty AffiliatesThe faculty affiliates are composed of professors from multiple departments and colleges at George Mason University, including the departments of Communication; Psychology; Public and International Affairs; and Sociology and Anthropology. Faculty are also drawn from the School of Management, the School of Public Policy, the College of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Social Work. David Anderson, is Professor in the School of Recreation, Health and Tourism and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Public Health. He received his Ph.D. from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Amy Best, is an Associate Professor with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Deborah Boehm-Davis, Professor of Psychology, received her Ph.D. from the University of California. Don Boileau, Professor of Communication, received his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Oregon. Thomasina Borkman, Professor of Sociology, received her Ph.D. from Columbia University. Carl Botan , Professor of Communication, received his from Wayne State University. Lauren Cattaneo, Assistant Professor of Psychology, received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. Tim Conlan, Professor of Government and Politics, is the Acting Director of the Masters of Public Administration. He received his Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University. Susan Crate, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Policy, received her Ph.D. in Ecology and Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shannon Davis, Assistant Professor of Sociology, received her Ph.D. in Sociology from North Carolina State University. Susanne Denham, Professor of Psychology, received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Rutledge Dennis, Professor of Sociology, received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Washington State University. Dimiter Dimitrov, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Education, received his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. Tim Gibson, Assistant Professor of Communication, received his Ph.D. in Communication from Simon Fraser University. Darrene Hackler, Assistant Professor of Government and Politics, received her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University. David Haines, Associate Professor of Anthroplogy, received his Ph.D. from American University. Emily Ihara, Assistant Professor of Social Work, received her Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University. Devon Johnson, Assistant Professor of Administration of Justice Program, received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles. Karyna Korostelina is a faculty member of the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. David Kravitz, Associate Professor of Management, received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He continued his postdoctoral training in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Bowling Green State University. Debra Lattanzi Shutika, Assistant Professor of English, received her Ph.D. in Folklore from the University of Pennsylvania and does research on international migration. Jennifer Leeman, Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics, received her Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Megan McCutcheon, Research Associate with the Center for Social Science Research, received her M.A. in Gerontology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dennis Ritchie, Professor of Social Work, is the Director for the Center for Child Welfare. He received his M.S.W. from the University of Pennsylvania and Ph.D. from Syracuse University. Steven Rose, Professor of Social Work, received his M.S.W. from Washington University at St. Louis and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kathy Rowan, Professor of Communication, received her Ph.D. in English at Purdue University. Catherine Rudder, Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, is the Director of the Masters Program in Public Policy. She received her Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Tony Samara, Assistant Professor of Sociology, received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Ingrid Sandole-Staroste is a faculty member of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Women's Studies Research and Resource Center. Linda Seligmann, Professor of Anthropology, received her M.A. from the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas-Austin and her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Illinois-Urbana. Colleen Shogan, Associate Professor of Government and Politics, received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. Debra Shutika , Assistant Professor of English. Halaevalu Vakalahi, Associate Professor of Social Work, received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah. M. Eugenia Verdaguer, Director of the Bachelor of Individualized Studies program, is a sociologist and Latin Americanist and received her Ph.D. from American University. Heather Warren, Psychology Postdoctoral Research Fellow, received her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. Janine R. Wedel, Professor in the School of Public Policy, received her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Michael Wolf-Branigin, Associate Professor of Social Work, received his M.S.W. from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. from Wayne State University.
