Jason A. Smith, Ph.D. is a Research Affiliate with the Center for Social Science Research at George Mason University and member of the Justice 21 Committee with the Society for the Study of Social Problems. Jason’s research focuses on race and media exclusion. Overarching themes in his work include issues of access and representation for communities of color in various institutional and organizational spaces. In the past he has worked with organizations such as the American Sociological Association, El Sistema USA, and the New America Foundation. He has taught courses in sociology at George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, and Trinity Washington University. Outside of Sociology, he has worked with and developed curriculum in the School of Business at George Mason University and the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.
Jason’s research has been published in Sociology of Race & Ethnicity, Ethnic & Racial Studies, and Studies in Media & Communication, to name a few. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from George Mason University. More information on his research can be found at https://jasonasmithsoc.com/.
