The CHR will not be awarding summer doctoral fellowships for summer 2026. We are in the final year of our charter and are winding down various programs as a result.
We would like to thank our colleagues in the Graduate Division for their generous funding and commitment to humanities. Their support allowed us to direct summer funding to 21 CHSS doctoral students from 2023 to 2025. Please find a full list of fellows and their projects here. We had the opportunity to hear from each of these students in a dedicated lunchtime talk series, and we were proud to support and showcase such tremendous work. Thank you to all who presented, attended, and made these awards possible.
Looking ahead, we would like to point doctoral students in the humanities to the 2026 Summer Research Assistantships, awarded by the Office of the Provost. These are significant awards ($9,000), identical to what the CHR / Graduate Division awards had been in recent years. We believe many of you in the CHR community would be well-positioned to secure this competitive funding!
Our colleagues have generously extended the deadline to allow more of you to prepare and submit proposals. The new deadline is March 11. These RAships provide a wonderful opportunity for dissertating students to make significant progress on their projects and we hope that you consider applying. Learn more here.
Finally, a note on community, which is at the core of the CHR mission and has been one of our great successes. If a group of RA-funded doctoral fellows (with humanities / humanities-inflected / humanities-adjacent projects) were to be interested in forming some type of structured group this summer, whether for co-working, writing, or presenting work, we would love to support that initiative. The CHR has been proud to support and nurture the work of our graduate students, and will continue to do so this summer to the extent that we are able, in whatever capacity proves desirable. We will coordinate with our colleagues in the CHSS Dean's Office, in the Provost's Office, and in the Grad Division to make a plan and provide details in the coming months.
